Summary:

How many of you have engaged with a streaming service (Netflix, Hulu, and/or Amazon Prime) within the last week? A lot of us, right? In the marketing world, we call these platforms digital video services. Why are they important? These unique services may be the next solution to your business! By marketing through digital video services, you have the ability to bridge the gap between your brand and the needs of your consumers, especially younger consumers. How? Hulu offers a subscription that is significantly cheaper if you agree to watch commercials throughout your show. Therefore, this allows for a HUGE opportunity for marketers trying to reach consumers who are engaging with these platforms! 

How do we know how to reach the right audience? In order to advertise on a digital video service, consumers must complete surveys to inform you about their interests. This is helpful because it makes it possible to segment the right shows and ads toward your target audience.. With that being said, the different segments are created based on the shows your consumers are watching (which separates them into different categories when it comes to direct advertising). On the other hand, in order to catch the eye of consumers, you are able to incorporate elements of the film and entertainment industry into the scripts or imagery you are using (for commercials/hulu advertisements). By doing so,you are making your brand remain relevant among the consumers that you are targeting. 

Overall, by promoting relevance within your brand, you are also promoting engagement and interaction by consumers. Just how many consumers do you ask? 72 million hulu consumers/users are considered to be “ad-supported viewers”. Therefore, they are the individuals who do not pay for the feature to skip the ads, and genuinely, they are required to watch what comes up on their screens (there is no skipping advertisements on this subscription!).
