Eric considers himself a “recovering banker” of 15 years, who for the past eleven years has focused his efforts as a digital strategist, helping his clients (mostly community banks) better understand and leverage the power of the Internet as a strategic business tool. An award-winning web designer with WSI, the world’s largest digital agency network, Eric is a two-time contributing author to the best-selling book Digital Minds – 12 Things Every Business Needs to Know About Digital Marketing. Consistently rated in the top five digital marketing books on Amazon, the book is in its second edition and available in three languages.

A sought-after, nationally-recognized speaker in the financial services industry, Eric is a member of the National Speakers Association and loves sharing his knowledge to help educate and inspire others. He is the co-creator of a weekly webinar show called Free Webinar Wednesdays, founder of the Banker Education Series webinar series, and serves as a faculty member at several banking schools around the country where he teaches bankers about digital strategy, online marketing and social media. He is a WSI Certified LinkedIn Professional and holds undergraduate degrees in business administration and psychology. While working full-time as a community banker, Eric earned his MBA and completed the three-year Graduate School of Banking program in Madison, WI in 2003.

Professionally, Eric helps his clients in all areas of digital marketing, which includes mobile-responsive web development, search engine marketing and optimization, social media strategies, e-mail communication, and “big-picture” digital strategic planning. He’s the co-founder of DigitalRCP.com, a service created to help businesses understand their risk when it comes to operating in today’s digital world. When he’s not helping his clients succeed online, he can typically be found on one of his many bicycles training for his next mountain bike/triathlon race or spending time with his wife and two (very spoiled) golden retrievers.

Summary:

In a recent blog post entitled AI’s Thoughts on Ways a Community Bank Can Use Social Media - A Conversation with ChatGPT, we asked the popular OpenAI chat tool ChatGPT some questions about what it felt the advantages of leveraging a social media strategy were for community banks. This was the first AI-generated conversation that we published on our blog and thought it was a telling sign of things to come in the areas of content creation and thought leadership.

Considering the growing popularity of conversational tools such as ChatGPT, we thought we would have another conversation using the latest version as of the time of writing this, GPT-4, to see what it would have to say “about itself” when we asked ChatGPT to write a post about ChatGPT. The following is being posted “as-is'' to give you a sense of what the technology can do. So buckle up, here we go…

Hey ChatGPT, How Can You Change the Way Marketers “Work”?

As an AI language model, ChatGPT has the potential to change the way marketers work in several ways. Here are a few examples:

  1. Content creation: ChatGPT can be used to create compelling and high-quality content for marketing purposes. Marketers can use the language model to generate blog posts, articles, social media posts, and other types of content. ChatGPT can also help with content research and generate ideas for content that resonates with the target audience.ChatGPT Download
  2. Personalization: With ChatGPT, marketers can personalize their messages and content for individual customers. The language model can analyze customer data and generate personalized recommendations, offers, and messages that are tailored to each customer's needs and preferences.
  3. Customer service: ChatGPT can be used to provide customers with personalized and efficient customer service. Marketers can integrate the language model with chatbots and virtual assistants to provide customers with instant answers to their questions and concerns.
  4. Predictive analytics: ChatGPT can be used to analyze customer data and predict customer behavior. Marketers can use this information to create targeted marketing campaigns and improve their overall marketing strategy.
  5. Market research: ChatGPT can be used to analyze social media and other online data to gain insights into customer behavior and preferences. Marketers can use this information to develop more effective marketing strategies and better understand their target audience.

Hey ChatGPT, Why Should a Community Bank Use This Type of Technology?

There are several reasons why a community bank, should consider using AI technology, such as ChatGPT:

  1. Efficiency: ChatGPT can automate routine tasks, such as answering customer inquiries, freeing up employees to focus on higher-value tasks. This can help a community bank operate more efficiently and effectively.
  2. Personalization: ChatGPT can analyze customer data to provide personalized recommendations and solutions to customers. This can help a community bank build stronger relationships with its customers and improve customer satisfaction.
  3. Cost-effective: Using ChatGPT can be a cost-effective way for a community bank to provide high-quality customer service without the need for additional staff. This can help the bank save on labor costs while still providing excellent service.
  4. Competitive advantage: Implementing AI technology such as ChatGPT can provide a competitive advantage to a community bank. By using advanced technology to improve customer service and streamline operations, a bank can stand out from competitors and attract more customers.
  5. Improved insights: ChatGPT can help a community bank gain valuable insights into customer behavior and preferences. This information can be used to develop more effective marketing strategies and improve the overall customer experience.

It’s Time for a Human to Take the Wheel and Bring Us Home

As you can likely see by now, using AI technology such as ChatGPT has the ability to provide numerous benefits to a community bank (any organization, really), with the potential to revolutionize the way marketers work by providing them with new tools and insights that can help them create more effective and personalized marketing campaigns. However, we’re not sure it’s quite ready to run entirely on its own.

We often consider technology as a great tool to help create a really good first draft. The reality is, you still need someone to review, edit, and personalize the content to truly make it your own. Until the technology can understand your culture, and your unique values, and weave in specific examples that are unique to your bank, you’re not getting the most out of your content. That’s why we’ve said from the onset that it’s best to mix ChatGPT (like) marketing tools with real-world community bank information and examples.

Sure, the content above was “ok” but had we taken the time to edit and add more community bank-related examples (since we know the industry pretty well), the article could have been a lot better. But in combination, this type of process will help take your content marketing strategy to the next level and help evolve your marketing efforts. Tomorrow’s successful marketer, whether you’re in community banking or not, will understand that it’s a combination of marketer and AI tech to be truly successful.
